The arts scene in Charleston is always reinventing itself and we’re looking forward to participating in the Charleston Regional Alliance for the Arts OPEN event happening at Memminger Auditorium from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday, September, 11, 2010.

The event helps kick off the fall art season in the Lowcountry. Grab the family and experience a cultural marketplace of interactive arts booths where you can buy tickets, memberships and merchandise. There will be performances, multi-media presentations, a family fun arts corner, art installations and an open-air courtyard of vendors and street performers that will give you a sampling of Charleston’s arts for FREE and some of the best Charleston catering as well!

On January 24, 2010, the Lowcountry was transformed into Hollywood with the Charleston premiere of “Dear John” starring Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried. The movie, directed by Lasse Hallström, is based on the novel by best-selling author Nicholas Sparks and many of the scenes in the movie were shot in various Lowcountry locations. Coordinated by JMC Charleston, Cru Catering provided all the culinary delights for the Hollywood style after party at the South Carolina Aquarium and libations were provided by Ice Box Bar Services. The movie premiere raised money for Carolina Autism, a local charity that serves children and adults with autism.

East Cooper Medical Center VIP Opening Gala & Employee Appreciation Carnival

East Cooper Medical Center is a 130-bed acute care hospital in Mount Pleasant. Due to the increase in population East of the Cooper, the hospital needed to expand to serve the community better. Cru Catering was hand picked by organizers to cater two of their biggest events to help introduce the new 250,000 square foot facility to the staff and community.

On February 28, 2010, hospital staff and their families were treated to a full day “BBQ & Boots” celebration where Cru Catering provided a full menu of barbecue and all the “fixings” to more than 1,500 people. Coordinated by Ooh Events, this event offered staff their first chance to tour the hospital, enjoy some bluegrass and participate in western fun and games.

It went from cowboy boots to tuxedos on March 4, 2010, when Distinctive Events and Cru Catering transformed the hospital from clinical to magical for the East Cooper Medical Center VIP Gala. Hosted for physicians and their guests, this private black-tie affair allowed us to showcase our diverse menu of passed hors d’oeuvres and expansive food station options to more than 1,100 guests.

Grand Re-Opening of the Dock Street Theatre

Originally built in 1736, Charleston’s Dock Street Theatre was the first theater building designed solely for theatrical performances in America.The theater was destroyed in the great fire of 1740 and a hotel was built on its site in early 1800s. After many years it was transformed again into a theater in 1937 but after years of wear and tear, hurricanes and Lowcountry summers, the theater needed another bout of TLC. After a three year, $19 Million renovation, the Dock Street Theatre reopened and Cru Catering was part of this historical moment in Charleston on Thursday, April 1, 2010. Coordinated by Denise Barto of All Occassions, guests enjoyed a champagne reception, a tour of the restored theater and an elegant black-tie dinner served by Cru Catering in various areas of the theater. Cru Catering was delighted to be a part of the next chapter in the Dock Street Theatre’s history.

Every year hundreds of thousands of people from around the world head to New Orleans to celebrate Mardi Gras, but folks in Charleston didn’t have to travel to New Orleans to enjoy the first Mardi Gras Ball that was held on January 30, 2010 at Memminger Auditorium. Cru Catering provided authentic Mardi Gras fare for this fantastic event as revelers dressed in their favorite Fat Tuesday attire and celebrated the night away.
